The Vocabulary Mastery of the Tenth Grade Students through Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy

Abstract
This research is about The Vocabulary Mastery of the Tenth Grade Students through Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy. The problem statement isto what extent Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy is effective toimprove students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade. The objective of this research was to find out the extent of the Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy is effective to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade.This research employed quasiexperimental design with anexperimental group and controlled group to students of the tenth grade which consisted of 87 students. The sample of the research consisted of 44 students who were chosen by using purposive sampling. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ post-test in the experimental group and the controlled group. The mean score of the post-test (19.36) in the experimental group was greater than the mean score of the post-test (15.86) in the controlled group and the standard deviation of the post-test (3.16) in the experimental group was less than the standard deviation of the post-test in the controlled group (3.31). From ttest, the researcher found that the value of the ttest (3.58) was greater than thettable (2.02) at the level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) = 42. It was concluded that the use of vocabularyself-collection strategy is effective to improve the students’ English vocabulary mastery of tenth grade students. The extensive use of Vocabulary Self-Collection Strategy was highly recommended to students with low mastery level of English vocabulary. Keywords - Vocabulary, Self-Collection, Strategy
