A Miniature UWB Antenna with Grounded Slot
Abstract
The proposed miniature antenna is designed for ultra-wide band (UWB) applications. The design is based on a monopole structure and fabricated on two-layer FR4 printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB thickness is 1.6 mm with dielectric constant of 4.4. The antenna was created with the combination of a sector and a rectangle at the top layer. Moreover, a rectangular slot was formed on the ground plane at the bottom layer. The size of antenna is 26 × 36 × 1.6 mm3. The measured S11 is less than -10 dB from 2 to 12 GHz. The peak gain is 5.43 dBi at 6 GHz. The designed antenna can operate between 3.1 to 10.6 GHz and meet the requirements for the using of UWB applications. The proposed miniature antenna with grounded slot can reveal the advantages of easy manufacture, low cost, small size, and excellent electrical performances, which are suitable for portable devices and communication products.
