An Emerging Topic in Information and Communication Technologies Education: Robotics Education Based on Teachers’ Experience and Opinions in Turkey

Abstract
The study was conducted in order to examine opinions and experiences of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) teachers in Turkey on use of robotics in education as well as to guide ICT teachers who are to use these technologies. Qualitative method was used in the study. The data were collected via nine semi-structured questions in an interview form from fifteen ICT teachers. Results of the study show that the teachers mostly prefer demonstration & performance method, lecture method and learning by doing method. According to teachers, teaching robotics contributes to their professional development mostly in the aspects of keeping themselves updated with emerging knowledge and practices which in turn contributes to their students and contributes to productivity. Lego products and Arduino are the kits that are mostly preferred. The teachers think that robotics affects the students mainly in the aspects of problem solving, thinking, group working skills and outcome based work. Finally, costs of the kits, limited course time and oversized classes are stated as the challenges of teaching robotics. Index Terms - Coding,ICT course, robotics in education, teacher opinions
