Contexts of Diabetes Mellitus Type Ii Aged 50-70 Years Patients Take Part in TALADNOI Primary Care Unit, Rural, Thailand
Abstract
- The Intervention Program is a non-pharmacological treatment, designed for diabetes mellitus type II aged 50-70-year-old in Taladnoi, Horathep, and Khokyai Primary Care Unit. The general objective of this quasi-experimental study was to cultivate the locally and culturally suitable Intervention Program for diabetes mellitus type 2 aged 50-70-year-old in rural, Thailand. The specific objectives of this study were to 1) To compare knowledge, and practice regarding self-care behavior on diet control, oral hypoglycemic drug taking/ other drug, self-health care, weight management and blood sugar control in the intervention group and the control group 2) To compare knowledge, and practice regarding self-care behavior on diet control, oral hypoglycemic drug taking/ other drug, self-health care, weight management and blood sugar control within group before and after implementation of the Intervention Program. The sample of this study was 140 participants, aged 50-70 years, were allocated to the intervention group (n=70) and the control group (n=70). The study investigations included knowledge, and practice regarding self-care behaviour on diet control, oral hypoglycemic drug taking/ other drugs, self-health care, weight management and blood sugar control. The intervention Program is made up of group health education every month for 3 months. As well, individual home visits for answering the questions were exploited to remind each member of the scheduled intervention Program. The measurements of dependent variables were conducted two times: at baseline, and after the intervention (three months). Data were evaluated using Chi-square, and t-test. The findings showed a significantly different (p value<5) enhancement in KP (knowledge, and practice regarding self-care behaviour on diet control, oral hypoglycemic drug taking/ another drug, self-health care, weight management and blood sugar control. Conclusion, the intervention Program could increase knowledge, and enrich their practice to control their self-care behaviour.
