Paper Title
The Performance Study of Double Drum Dryer for Moisture Reduction of Cassava Pulp
Abstract
The objective of this research was to reduction of cassava pulp moisture content for safe storage using a double drum dryer. The drying factors consisted of temperature of 100°C, 120°C and 140°C, drums rotational speed of 0.5 rpm, 0.6 rpm and 0.7 rpm, and the gap between drums of 0.15, 0.30 and 0.50 mm. The average initial moisture content of cassava pulp was 81.50%wb. It was found that the temperature had great effect on final product moisture, at the temperature of 140°C could reduce the final moisture content of cassava pulp to 4.30%wb and the problem of sticky on the surface of the drums was not happening. At the temperature of 100°C, the final moisture of cassava pulp was higher than the safety limit of storage and it has problem of sticky on the surface of the drums. It was also found that the final moisture content of cassava pulp at the same temperature increased with increase of the drums rotational speed. The optimum conditions for drying cassava pulp was found at temperature of 140°C, drums rotational speed of 0.7 rpm and the gap between drums of 0.5 mm, which grave minimum specific energy consumption of 15.53% and the highest drying capacity.
