Abstract
Considering the EU’s execution of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) from May in 2018, manyexpect service users will be able to gain more control over their personal data in cyber spaces than ever before. Well-structured and standardized regulations may increase users’willingness to share theirpersonal data for better services, which is the key motivationof GDPR. In this study, we will compare current guidelines in South Korea and EU’s new regulations in terms of how to collect and manage users’ private data. After reviewing the differences, we try to answer if EU’s GDPR is good enough to be regarded as new global standards. Also we review the reported disputes on impact of them in business perspective based on the legal cases in South Korea. Analytic methods were introduced to estimate the firm’s property loss caused by failing in private data protection and we anticipate the impact of new regulations in them.
