Paper Title
Study Of The Effect Of Packings In An Energy Optimized Binary Tray Distillation Column

Abstract
Exergy analysis is a thermodynamic analysis used to determine the energy inefficiencies in a thermal system. By performing a detailed exergy analysis on a distillation system can considerably improve the energy efficiency of the column. This may be done by retrofitting the existing column or redesigning the column by making suitable modifications, heat integration, etc. A statistical design approach of exergy analysis on a binary distillation process was carried out in this work and was optimized specifying different objective functions such as maximum product purity and exergetic efficiency. The Design Expert® based statistical analysis tool was used to evaluate the optimum column conditions.Further the optimum column conditions obtained was tried to replace with packing to study and observe the effect of packing on the exergetic efficiency of the optimized column.
