Comparative Analysis Of Turkey And Spain In Terms Of Tourism Economy
Abstract
Today, tourism sector, which is seen as an economic and social fact is one of the fastest growing sectors today. Tourism increases national income by providing necessary foreign exchange inflow to developed and developing countries, by creating employment opportunities and by affecting foreign trade balance of countries in positive direction. Based on this, the aim of the research is to compare and set forth the economic impact of the tourism movements of Turkey and Spain, which have similar characteristics in terms of geographical structure, climate, touristic products and demand structure. Within this framework, a comparative analysis has been applied to obtained data. As a result of research findings; as of the end of 2015, Spain accommodated 68.2 million tourists and has a worldwide share of 6.5%; Turkey was found to be behind Spain by accommodating 41.6 million tourists (3.9% share).In the same period; while Spain gained $ 56.5 billion revenue in tourism, Turkey gained $ 41.6 billion. Results of this research shows that contribution of Spain's tourism sector to the country's economy is much higher than that of Turkey.
