Moral Development During Childhood From The Sunnah And Contemporary Psychology: An Analytical Study
Abstract
This paper aims to examine the nature of moral development during childhood from the Sunnah and contemporary psychology. Nowadays, moral development in children has become an important issue of debate between religious and social sciences worldwide. For this reason, the current study attempts to explore the concept of moral development, its significance, and the factors affecting moral development during childhood stages from the Sunnah perspective and contemporary psychological studies. This study employs qualitative content analysis methodology to compare and analyze the traditions (Hadiths) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and theoretical as well as empirical data of contemporary psychology. The findings of this study provide an integrated approach to give a better understanding of moral development in children for parents, teachers, and instructor. This endeavor provides a comprehensive insight into the moral development in children for the welfare of Muslim societies in particular and for non-Muslims societies in general.
