Paper Title
A Study On External Swaging Mechanism For Aircraft Fitting
Abstract
Swaging, which is one of the forging methods for compressing and forming metallic materials, is generally used as a method of connecting pipes or tubes and fittings. When a tube whose inner diameter is smaller than the outer diameter of the fitting is inserted into the fitting and pressure is applied in the radial direction of the fitting, the fitting contracts and the tube and the fitting are joined permanently. Swaging is used in the production of hydraulic lines inside the aircraft due to its short working time and low loss of materials compared to other processes. In this paper, we have studied the mechanism through the shape design and structural analysis of fittings and swaging tools to realize the swaging process of aircraft fittings. Through the finite element analysis of the insertion length of the tube and the tooth stroke of the swaging tool, which are important factors, we analyzed the optimum conditions after analyzing the effect of the swaging joints.
