Paper Title
Classroom Learning Environment At Tarlac State University College of Education
Abstract
This study was conducted at the College of Education, Tarlac State University. The respondents are the 150 education students enrolled in the subjects, namely: Principles of Teaching and Facilitating Learning offered during the Academic Year 2015-2016. Most education student respondents are female who aged 16-19. In terms of classification of schools where students finished their secondary course, majority graduated from public schools. Classroom Learning Environment questionnaire was used to assess the actual experiences of the students in their classes (McGhee, Lowell, and Lemire, 2007). The questionnaire aims to obtain systematic student assessment of classroom climate in order to provide a positive learning environment. The respondents gave all items under persistence major, general positive, personal positive, values and beliefs , and effort a descriptive rating of strongly agree. It indicates that student respondents enjoyed their studies. They stay informed of current theory and research on the topics/lessons, experience positive learning community, and develop proficiency in skills. This means that teachers in the said subjects demonstrate a classroom environment that support and integrate different learning domains. It also indicates that teachers in the said subjects provide positive learning environment by using effective learning strategies, by sharing up-to-date information on best practices derived from evidence-based research. There are two learning environments namely general negative and personal negative which were given a descriptive rating of strongly disagree which confirms the analysis given on the general positive and which indicate that instructors considered diverse learners in their class. The classroom learning environment assessment of the students was hand scored. Descriptive Statistics was used in analyzing the data obtained and this included frequency, percentage distribution, and mean. On the other hand, Pearson r correlation was used to determine the relationship of age with their classroom learning environment assessment while Chi square was used to determine the relationship of sex and type of their classroom learning environment. All statistical computations were performed using SPSS version 17. This study found out that the age of the respondents and their classroom learning environment show significant relationship. while the type of school in their secondary level and the sex of the respondents show no significant relationship. Overall, creating a classroom environment that is organized, and that is characterized by mutual respect make it a lot easier to teach effectively.
