Diversity in Organisations: An Opportunity or A Challange

Abstract
Diversity in an organization means similarities and differences among the employees in terms of age, Gender, cultural background, physical abilities and disabilities. Employees are asset for the organization and also one of the sources for getting competitive advantage. Employees are different not only on terms of caste, culture, gender but also in their perspectives and prejudices. Diversity makes the work force heterogeneous. Today managing this diversity is a challenge for management and also a requirement for getting better productivity. This paper critically will discuss various diversity types in an organization, advantages, challenges faced and some of the strategies to cope up with such diversity. This paper gives a different perspective of the various issues of workplace diversity and highlights the role of research plays in challenging and influential business practices related to workplace diversity.
