Workforce Diversity Management in Schools Under The Office of Secondary Educational Service Area 25
This study aimed to examine the workforce diversity management thus develop guidelines on workforce diversity in schools under the Office of Secondary Educational Area 25, Thailand. Researchers utilized mixed mode method using survey and focus group interview design. A total of 474 school administrators and teachers as well as seven experts were involved phase 1 and phase of this study as respondents respectively. Researchers employed purposive sampling technique for the seven qualitative samples while stratified sampling followed by simple random sampling technique for 474 quantitative samples by utilizing Krejcie and Morgan table. Two types of research instruments were utilized in this study namely questionnaire and focus group interview protocol. This study was conducted in two phases. Descriptive statistic like mean score, percentage as well as content analysis were utilized to analyze the obtained data. The results from the first phase indicated that all the dimensions of workforce diversity management were at high level. In addition guidelines for school administrators to promote workforce diversity management are proposed according to four different age groups namely Generation Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and Generation M. In conclusion, guidelines for the all generations generally cover the following aspects: (i) school administrators must be good role models and show their good leadership skills. (ii) school administrators must analyze tasks for each generation, provide work manuals according to the workforce needs, promote professional growth, study information about success and failure caused by workforce diversity, use different management techniques in order for them to work congruently, provide opportunities for workforce from all generations to be part of the team, and gradually increase their roles and allow them to show their capacity to be accepted by the team. (iii) school administrators must assign the workload of retired staff to other staff. If school administrators cannot verbally assign tasks, the rules and regulations should be applied to reinforce workers to achieve work goals. Praising and punishing are necessary too.
