State Estimation of Induction Motor Via Sliding Mode Filter

Abstract
Vector control or field oriented control is an efficient control method in order to obtain maximum efficiency through the use of induction motors. This control technique requires rotor flux component. However rotor flux is not able to be measured in practical. There are some control mechanisms for experimental applications but not in practical implementations. Hence rotor flux is needed to be estimated by an estimator or observer. Observers use measurable variables and components to calculate or estimate the immeasurable variables. While the rotor flux is possible to be known, field oriented control can process appropriately. In this study Kalman-Bucy filter and novel sliding mode based filters are applied to induction motor simulation model and the estimation results are illustrated comparatively. Index Terms- Induction motor, Kalman Filter, sliding mode filter, state estimation.
