Paper Title
Narrative Writing Through Social Networking Site: A Case Study on Facebook
Abstract
This exploratory case study investigated the use of the Facebook environment in teaching narrative writing in an urban and a sub-urban school in the northern region of Malaysia. Twelve students and two teachers participated in this study. The study explored the micro and macro aspects of writing. The investigation was also guided by the online interaction archives which was categorised based on the Community of Inquiry model (CoI) suggested by Garrison, Anderson and Archer (2000). Focus group interviews were conducted in an effort to further define the role of Facebook in online writing. The results of the study revealed that the quality of the essays improved in micro aspects in urban school. However, there were no improvements when the Facebook was used in the sub-urban school. Based on these findings, implications emerged for online instructions and students preparations when they are engaged in the online writing.
