Positive Psychology in Animation Film: A Review of Inside Out 2
Abstract
Films serve as a valuable resource for cultivating character qualities and promoting flourishing. The potency of
the film narrative evokes emotions, which subsequently affect behavior and life. This article examines the movie Inside Out
2 through thematic analysis with positive psychology concepts. The movie is about Riley, a girl in early adolescence, who
encounters new emotions. This study focuses on Riley's journey of self-formation and attempts to identify positive
psychology concepts in the story. Riley learns to adapt to her own and others' emotions while trying to cope with the
negative emotions she has just encountered. The story has a positive approach and reflects Ryan M. Niemiec's criteria for a
positive psychology movie. I developed themes based on the concepts of positive psychology. I conducted the analysis under
three headings: self-development, growth after adversity, and character strengths. In this article, I discovered the presence of
each emotion in Riley is necessary for a balanced mental state of mind and the formation of a sense of self.
