TEACHING WITH AI: EXPLORING CHATBOTS AND INTELLIGENT AGENTS IN THE CLASSROOM
Abstract
This presentation introduces an innovative approach to teaching Czech grammar using an intelligent chatbot powered by generative artificial intelligence. The project addresses the growing demand for modernising language instruction and the increasing use of AI tools in the Czech language education. Designed for lower secondary school pupils (ages 11–15), the chatbot serves as a support tool for revising and practising key grammatical topics, particularly spelling and sentence structure. A key feature of the chatbot is its emphasis on promoting active thinking—rather than providing ready-made answers, it guides students toward reflection and independent problem-solving. The paper covers the development process of the chatbot, its integration into school websites, and early feedback received from teachers and students. It also presents an analysis of human–AI interactions, highlights the benefits and challenges encountered in classroom implementation, and outlines recommendations for educational practice. The chatbot is based on the GPT-4o model and is adapted to the age and knowledge level of each learner. The aim is to demonstrate how generative AI can enhance Czech language teaching while fostering students’ critical and autonomous thinking.
