Paper Title
Respect for Diversity: Peace in Thai Society
Abstract
This paper examines the role of respect for diversity as a fundamental condition for sustainable peace in Thai society. It argues that diversity—whether cultural, religious, ethnic, gender-based, or political—is an inescapable social reality. The central thesis is that peace cannot be achieved through mere tolerance of differences, but rather through genuine respect, mutual understanding, and inclusive policies. Drawing from peace studies, human rights theory, and Thai socio-cultural contexts, this paper highlights challenges such as inequality, identity-based conflicts, gender misunderstandings, and political polarization. It proposes pathways to peace, including peace education, inclusive governance, cultural mediation, and responsible media practices. Ultimately, respect for diversity emerges not as an abstract moral principle but as a practical foundation for peaceful coexistence in Thailand.
