Current State of Adolescent and Paediatric Obesity in the United Kingdom: Challenges and Directions for Policy and Care
Abstract
Obesity in children and adolescents remains a pressing public health challenge in the United Kingdom. With rising prevalence rates and widening health inequalities, the condition presents substantial burdens to individuals, families, and the NHS. This article examines the current epidemiology of paediatric and adolescent obesity in the UK, highlights its clinical and socioeconomic implications, and explores existing interventions and policy responses. The article concludes by proposing targeted recommendations for an integrated, equitable and sustainable obesity strategy for children and young people.
