Paper Title
INTERDISCIPLINARY EDUCATION SYSTEM RAISING EMPLOYABILITY: A PARADOX

Abstract
In our last paper “Disciplinary, Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary: Whither Choice Based Credit System” presented in project E-QUAL conference at Jadavpur University Kolkata, we critically examined the ‘Choice Based Credit System’ in Indian Education System. The objectives of higher education is to prepare students for employment and promote equality and social justice to develop humanism and scientific outlook. Interdisciplinary aspect has become more important in present scenario. We are shifting from monodiscipline to multidisciplinary education system. UGC also recommends the choice based credit system and adoption of inter/multidisciplinary approach. The Yash Pal Committee report on Renovation and Rejuvenation of Higher Education emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary experiences and this should help students sustain themselves “when the demands of a particular job market change.” In India, new private universities are emerging on a fast pace and at present there are good number of private universities. They are preparing their students for more as industry-fitted and less as intellectuals. They are focusing more on placement drives and industry tie-ups so that students can be employed. However, nobody talks about the future of these interdisciplinary students like MBA in Media management and a student of information technology studying Human making courses as an employee. On practical grounds it seems that we are producing average personnel instead of experts of a particular branch. Any industry needs a human resource who are expert in that domain. Interdisciplinary represents the preparation of multi-tasking employees only or is it also focused on knowledge producing? If we talk about the relation of employment with education then what are the expectations of the Human Resource department of various organisations from their potential employees? Whether Government institutions are also trying to follow the same trend? In what way Educator is working on its students? They enter into a classroom with what objective, whether to prepare a skilled labour or an intellectual with skills? Does the primary objective of education should be only preparing students for employment? In this paper we qualitatively analyse the problems of inter disciplinary student in getting job and also getting the jobs done more efficiently, we will take the view of recruiters as well as educators on this approach.
