Pedagogical Strategies for Interdisciplinary Learning in the Creative Arts

Abstract
Teaching Creative Arts in higher education demands pedagogical strategies that integrate theory with practice across disciplines such as dance, drama, music, and visual art. This paper explores approaches that foster creative expression, critical thinking, and reflective practice. Grounded in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and transformative learning theory, it highlights how educators can design inclusive, student-centred environments that promote experimentation and interdisciplinary engagement. Effective strategies include embodied learning in dance, improvisation in drama, experiential listening in music, and studio critique in visual art. These methods encourage students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts, bridging the gap between concept and creation. By aligning pedagogical methods with artistic processes, educators can cultivate dynamic learning experiences supporting personal and professional growth in the Creative Arts.
