The Role of Green Hydrogen in Strengthening Energy Security and the Potential of Its Production in Georgia
Abstract
The paper presents the role of green hydrogen in strengthening energy security and the potential of its production in Georgia. The focus of the energy policy is the preferential promotion of ecologically clean hydrogen. It is an innovative project for the future and a competitive alternative to traditional fossil fuels. In order to balance the energy system, it is very important to develop the `green hydrogen~ technology and create the necessary infrastructure for it. Georgia, which has its own renewable energy potential and a favorable geographical location, expects to gain significant economic, political and security benefits both from developing its own resources and by promoting transit from other countries. The aim of the research is to outline the role of green hydrogen in improving energy security, assess its production potential and develop appropriate economic policy. The paper concludes that green hydrogen will help strengthen Georgia's energy security and replace imported fuels as it has a large untapped renewable energy potential. Within the Eastern Partnership, Europe considers Georgia as an ally towards green hydrogen production. It is important that the country becomes self-sufficient in the use of hydrogen and has additional resources for export and not just transit. Georgia has the resources to present green hydrogen on the global market. The use of the research results will help define differentiated tasks and activities for the development of a green hydrogen energy development policy in Georgia.
