The Legal and Psychological Support for Womens Victim of Domestic Violence in the Proces of Reintegration
Abstract
Domestic violence is a phenomenon that shakes the values of a democratic society. Comparative and empirical data regarding domestic violence support the view that the family as a basic social community and as a source of emotional, social and material support for its members can often turn into a violent environment where its members and their human rights are seriously violated.
Introduction: In addition to the definitions of violence that are most often found in international documents, and this also includes family violence as a form of violence, whenever violence is used, regardless of who is the perpetrator of violence, it represents a violation of rights and basic human freedoms. Domestic violence can cause long-term psychological trauma, and therefore we believe that providing psychosocial support has a special meaning and is more than necessary.
Objectives: The purpose of the research was to first see the level of occurrence of domestic violence. Also the objective of the research was to explore and see the type of assistance or needs of women victims of domestic violence, focusing on the legal support and services secured by the legal system and psychological support and services which is necessary during the process of the reintegration process.
Methodology: Measurement instruments used online survey. The online questionnaire was created in the surveyhero.com platform in the period from March 2, 2023. until 21.04.2023, and it was completed by a total of 21 women. The questionnaire consisted of several parts whose task was to provide information on the general data of the respondents, their work status, ownership, household, as well as types of help and support from the competent institutions that they provided.
Results: The needs of women victims of domestic violence are diverse, psycho-social support, accompaniment to competent institutions, assistance in physical separation from a violent environment through shelter in a safe shelter, as well as free legal services. Types of violence experienced by our respondents (12), the largest number of them, 10 or 83.33%, experienced psychological violence; 6 or 50% of them physical violence; 2 or 16.67% economic violence and with the same percentage we have for the following categories, 8.33% or with 1 case each we have for online sexual harassment, forced abortion and trafficking in women All our respondents (15) stated that they did not report violence to the Center for Social Work, and we also do not have data on the year in which they reported the violence. There is no Regulation on financial assistance for women victims of domestic violence. The local government in its programs and policies does not recognize victims of domestic violence as a special risk group and they do not have continuous psychosocial support.
Conclusion: Providing legal advice and support and in same time counseling and therapy services for domestic violence can also help survivors develop safety plans, establish healthy boundaries, and build their self-esteem and confidence, as well as their full reintegration into society.
