THE APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT PROCESSES: A CASE STUDY OF KNOWLEDGE CREATION AND TRANSFER IN LARGE-TILE FOR WALL AND FLOOR INSTALLATION IN THAILAND, USING THE SECI MODEL, COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE, AND PDCA

Abstract
Our comprehensive research, guided by the SECI model, was dedicated to exploring its application in the large tiling process for walls and floors. This model, which encompasses socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization, served as the backbone of our study. We also utilized a Community of Practices (CoPs) as a knowledge management tool, which is comprised of three main components: people, technology, and knowledge processes. Additionally, we employed PDCA as a knowledge capture tool, which is structured into four main steps: plan, do, check, and act. Our data was gathered from six Community of Practices members involved in the large tiling process for wall and floor, including experts from product manufacturers, skilled laborers in wall and floor tiling, and supervisors in wall and floor tiling. The results of the study of the application of the knowledge management process for large tiling process for wall and floor using the SECI model include: 1) socialization by exchanging practical knowledge about large tiling process for wall and floor between members of the Community of Practices through the processes of meetings, coaching, and group discussions 2) externalization by extracting deep-seated knowledge about large tiling process for wall and floor to explicit knowledge of a PDCA as a knowledge capture tool among members of the Community of Practices through the processes of surveys, interviews, practice in actual areas, and taking notes 3) combination by integrating knowledge about the large tiling process for wall and floor with the explicit knowledge obtained from the related operating document or manual and systematically storing the combined knowledge through the process of taking notes and creating an operating manual for large tiling process for wall and floor, and 4)internalization, the process of embedding knowledge from the combination process to those involved who have learned and created new knowledge. This is achieved by publishing an operating manual for the large tiling process for walls and floors through social media, making it a valuable resource for the tiling community.
