Holıstıc Approaches to Women's Health in the Postmenopausal Perıod

Abstract
The postmenopausal period commences within 12 months of the final menstrual cycle and persists throughout the woman's life. Fluctuations in hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, and follicle-stimulating hormone, in conjunction with the waning protective effect of oestrogen, give rise to various health complications in women. These fluctuations manifest in deteriorations across diverse domains of health, including cardiometabolic, musculoskeletal, genitourinary, and mental health. Consequently, a range of diseases and conditions manifest, including vasomotor symptoms, obesity, osteoporosis, sleep disorders, and cognitive disorders, along with an elevated risk of other chronic diseases.Various treatment and rehabilitation techniques, with menopausal hormone therapy being a primary option, are available during this period to manage symptoms, protect health, and enhance well-being in postmenopausal women. In this review, physical activity and exercise, special diets and supplements, lifestyle and changes, cognitive behavioral therapy, complementary medicine practices, and physical/social environment regulation are discussed from a holistic perspective to improve the quality of life of postmenopausal women.
