The Importance of Idiomatic Expressions in Higher Education: A Focus on Translation Studies
Abstract
This article investigates the significance of teaching and translating idioms within the educational context, particularly for higher education and translation studies. Idiomatic expressions, often considered culture-bound and non-literal, present unique challenges in translation, making their study crucial for university students, particularly those pursuing translation courses. By reviewing existing literature on idioms and translation, this study argues that idiomatic expressions should be integrated into the curriculum of translation programs to bridge the gap between language learning and translation practice. This study aims to benefit English language practitioners, translator curriculum designers, and pedagogical systems.
