Paper Title
The Role of Morphological Awareness in Vocabulary Acquisition: Insights from Global and Iranian Educational Context
Abstract
This study investigates the critical role of morphological awareness in vocabulary acquisition, focusing both on global findings and the specific context of Iranian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. By reviewing the relationship between understanding word structure—such as prefixes, roots, and suffixes—and the ability to learn new vocabulary, the paper highlights how morphological awareness can enhance word comprehension and retention. Review of research findings highlight the significance of this awareness in learners’ vocabulary development. Besides, the studies’ outcomes shed light on the particular challenges faced by Iranian EFL learners, such as the influence of their native language in the transfer of morphological knowledge from Persian to English. The main finding suggests that integrating morphological instruction into language learning can significantly improve vocabulary learning and learners’ reading and writing skills. The paper also discusses practical implications for ESL/EFL educators and offers ideas for future research, to better understand how morphological insights can improve learning in various linguistic contexts.
