Paper Title
SYNTHESIS OF BIOMASS MACROPHYTE HYDROGEL COMPOSITE FOR WATER TREATMNT APPLICATION
Abstract
Hydrogels are 3-dimensional polymers network capable of absorbing a large amount of water. Natural polymers hydrogels are biodegradable, non toxic and biocompatible. A new ecofriendly composite from macrophyte plant biomass and chitosan polymers have been developed for efficient approach to the technology of wastewater purification and phytoremediation. The study uses a chemical crosslinking technique to synthesize starch and chitosan-based hydrogel using diglycidyl as a crosslinker. The synthesis and characterization of this material was confirmed by Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (MES). The experiment results showed the chemical crosslinking among the polymeric chain and the semicrystaline of the hydrogel/hydrogel composite samples The low cost, the nontoxic, the technological versatility of the material, the simplicity of the synthesis reaction (nontoxic solvent (water) and weak energy), make the use of this substrate an innovative process technology for water treatment.
