ANTI-CYTOPLASMIC ANTIBODIES: PREVALENCE, ANTIGENIC SPECIFICITY, AND CLINICAL ASSOCIATION IN A COHORT OF OMANI PATIENTS
Abstract
This study aimed to determine the prevalence of cytoplasmic anti-nuclear antibodies (ANAs) and their clinical correlations in the Omani population. It is a retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using consecutive samples collected between January 2018 and December 2019. Cytoplasmic antibodies were identified using Hep2010 cells, and antigenic specificity was determined using extractable nuclear antigens (ENA), liver autoantibodies and autoimmune myositis immunological assays. Antigenic specificises were further correlated with the clinical findings. Positive ANA was detected in 33.7% of Omani population. Cytoplasmic ANAs accounted for 5.49% of positive ANAs, with anti-Ro52 being the most prevalent antibody (8.1%). Joint pain was the predominant clinical presentation (26.6%) associated with cytoplasmic ANA. There was a notable correlation between cytoplasmic ANAs and liver disorders such as liver9 cirrhosis. Anti-Jo1 was the most common cytoplasmic ANA associated with joint pain (80%).the study findings highlight the diagnostic significance of cytoplasmic ANA in identifying autoimmune conditions.
