ELABORATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MGO THIN FILM PREPARED BY CHEMICAL METHOD
Abstract
Thin film of Magnesium oxide (MgO) was prepared on glass substrate by a simple sol-gel dip-coating method. In this research work we have investigated the morphological, structural and optical properties of the MgO thin film. The obtained thin layer of MgO was characterized by X-ray diffraction (DRX), the XRD spectra exhibit that the film was a cubic structure along (200) and (220) directions. Using uv-visible analysis our sample of MgO thin film presented good transmittance with value between 70 –95% in the visible region. The value of the optical band gap Eg was about 3.90 eV. The morphology of the sample has a shape of island with homogeneous distribution. EDX analysis confirmed the presence of Magnesium and Oxygen elements, the film has well stoichiometric.
