PERSPECTIVE OF ORGANIC POULTRY FARMING IN UNDERDEVELOPED COUNTRIES: A CASE STUDY FROM PAKISTAN

Abstract
The poultry industry in underdeveloped countries like Pakistan faces numerous challenges, including antibiotic resistance, environmental degradation, and health concerns. Organic farming offers a sustainable solution to these issues. This perspective highlights the benefits of adopting organic farming practices in the poultry industry, including improved animal welfare, reduced environmental pollution, and enhanced product quality.A case study was conducted to evaluate the effects of a Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL)-based diet on growth performance and meat quality in Japanese quail. The results showed that quails fed the BSFL-based diet had significantly higher body weight gain, higher protein content, and lower fat content in breast and thigh meat. This study demonstrates the potential of BSFL as a sustainable and cost-effective protein source for quail, enhancing growth performance and meat quality. The findings of this study support the adoption of organic farming practices in the poultry industry, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable food system in underdeveloped countries like Pakistan. However, there is a need ofGovernment support, capacity building, a lot of applied research and market incentives can facilitate the transition to organic poultry farming, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable food system.
