Paper Title
MICROSTRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ALUMINUM-GNPS COMPOSITES WITH ALUMINUM CARBIDES OBTAINED BY TWO DIFFERENT METHODS
Abstract
The microstructure and mechanical properties of Al-GNPs composites produced by hot extrusion at 500ºC were compared with those of Al-GNPs composites produced by hot extrusion at 400ºC and subsequently annealed at 610ºC. Tensile tests were carried out on composites samples and LM, SEM, and TEM observations were performed. Aluminum nano-sized carbides were obtained during extrusion at 500ºC and nano- and microsized carbides were obtained during annealing at 610ºC in extruded at 400ºC composites. Fracture behaviors of composites were also discussed. It was found that nano-sized carbides cause higher strength and plastic properties while micro-sized carbides cause lower strength and higher brittleness of the composites.
