EFFECTIVENESS OF NON-PHARMACOLOGICAL INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE DEPRESSION IN MOTHERS WITH POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION: NARRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract
The postpartum period is a critical condition for postpartum mothers that requires adjustment, where this negative effect will have an impact on the incidence of depression. This study aimed to find out what non-pharmacological interventions can be used to reduce depression in mothers with postpartum depression. The literature review was compiled by searching articles from the Garuda, Google Scholar, and Pubmed databases. The keywords used include non-pharmacological, postpartum depression, and reduced depression. The inclusion criteria taken in this literature review are articles in 2018-2023, articles in Indonesian and English, free full-text articles, original articles, and articles discussing non-pharmacological therapy to reduce depression in mothers with postpartum depression. Based on the results of the study, it was found that several non-pharmacological interventions that can effectively reduce depression in mothers with postpartum depression are Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Laughter Therapy, Postpartum Gymnastics, Massage Therapy Effleurage, Acupressure Therapy, and Listening to Music. Based on the findings of the literature on non-pharmacological interventions in postpartum mothers, it is proven effective to be applied in practice and it is recommended for health workers to integrate mental health care for postpartum mothers in clinical practice.
