A CULTURE-BASED DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT EDUCATION MODEL ON QUALITY OF LIFE OF DIABETES MELLITUSPATIENTS TYPE II: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW
Abstract
Objectives: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global health problem that is growing very quickly. WHO projects that DM will be the seventh cause of death in 2030. Diabetes is a chronic non-communicable disease that contributes two-thirds amongst deaths and disabilities worldwide. This systematic review examines andanalyze findings of a culture-based diabetes self-management education (DSME) model on quality of life in people with T2DM.
Methods: This study used a literature review design on individuals with T2DM as research subjects. Data were obtained from various sources such as Scopus, PubMed, Elsevier, and Google Scholar (Q1-Q4 open access international journals and sinta accredited national journals), also data from WHO, ADA, RISKESDAS, and books from the period 2013-2023. Keyword combinations used included "DSME and T2DM", "T2DM and Cultural and Quality life". Articles were collected and screened using the PRISMA diagram. Through the 13.345 articles identified, 40 articles met the criteria for review.
Results: These findings show the importance of developing a culture-based educational intervention model using the (DSME) model in the management of T2DM to improve patient’s quality of life. This intervention increase patient understandings and compliancestowards diabetes management which can reduce the possibility of complications.
Conclusions: The Culture-Based DSME Model for the Quality of Life of T2DM Patients can improve self-care management and quality of life in T2DM patients. Further research is needed to optimize the implementation and effectiveness of model interventions in various contexts.
