University – Labour Market Cooperation in the Process Higher Education Program Development
Abstract
The given paper aims to study analyse and assess one of the mechanisms Georgian State educational institution applies to develop higher educational program having considered the labour market demands. The procedures to foster, implement, further elaborate and institutionalize HE program are regulated by the relevant regulation/ordinance of the relevant HEI that is in line with all regulatory documents stipulated by the law. Moreover, development, evaluation and elaboration of the educational program is implemented in compliance with the accreditation standards provided by the national quality assurance center. Evaluation of the education program considers involvement of the stakeholders, including employers, at all stages. This process is ensured mainly by quantitate research method. Feedback from the employer and its analyses allows the program working group to enhanceidentification of the program strengths as well as the flows to be improved. Therefore, the program working group concerns to elaborate work plan considering the needs or recommendations obtained from current/potential employers. This helps to further improve the educational program to ensure the goals and outcomes of the program would equip the graduates with the skills that make them competitive on the labour market and be in high demand. The thesis has studies the reasons why the despite regular market survey reports presented to the accreditation committee in various years, the endorsement to present more qualified study is given together with the to reflect the labour market needs in the program curricula. The hypothesis is that program working team either hardly considers the market survey as a tool for the program improvement/elaboration, or labour market representatives underestimate their contribution in it or the survey is not qualified enough for the above mentioned purposes. The given paper examines the labour market surveys conducted for English philology graduate program at Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, faculty of Humanities.
a) to analyse whether the surveys conducted allows identification relevance of the skills and knowledge of the stated program graduates with the labour market demands.
b) to identify the attitude of the target organizations towards competences and skills of the graduates i.e. program learning outcomes.
c) To study the challenges of interaction between labour market and educational market and its translation opportunities into educational program.
