EFFECTS OF WORK-LIFE BALANCE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF FEMALE EMPLOYEES IN THE BANKING SECTOR IN NIGERIA

Abstract
Work-life balance has been a concern of those interested in the quality of working life experiences of employees in any organization, firm or business ventures in countries, and increased demand on today’s employees with no preference to the female employees has engendered a lot of conflicts between the work-life and other aspects of human life. This study dives to find out the relationship between work-life and female employee real performance at work in the banking sector in Nigeria. In specific terms, it reviews the effect of hours of work on the health of female employees, the link between the flexibility of work schedule and employee rate of turnover and determines the influence of family responsibilities of female workers on their lateness to work, commitment to work and efficiency at work in the banking system in Nigeria. That is, the paper reviews aspects of contemporary theory and research works on the effects work-life balance has on female employees taking on banking jobs in Nigeria. It explores why work-life balance has become important for research and policy in Nigeria’s banking sector. After outlining the traditional perspective to this problem and examining the concept of balance and its implication for the study of the relation between work and the rest of the life of female workers in banking in the case of Nigeria as a scope. A model in outlining the causes, nature and consequences of a more or less acceptable work-life balance is presented and recent research are reviewed and cited to illustrate the various dimensions. That is to say that secondary data will be leveraged on for this work as well as a critical analysis of the finding and feasible recommendations made in a view to resolving this problem that has previously been a subject of many research interest but long lasting solutions are yet to be in practice as a policy. Finally, the topic is in relation to the field of work of various female employees in many Nigeria banks, mostly the commercial banks operating in various states in Nigeria and banks’ organizational psychology and a number of theoretical and conceptual issues of relevance to research in Nigeria’s banking sector is raised. Therefore, it is expected that findings and recommendations provides the spark for banks’ policy makers to modify and structure work framework expectancies to enhance performance and reduce female employees work-life issues.
