Light Weight Structures for Renewable Energy Systems

Abstract
As modular pin joint structures, tensegrities offer unique possibilities for multiscale lattice structures [1], characterized by their geometry and connections [2]. Due to the use of multiple separate components, tensegrities are easier to manage for maintenance and transportation purposes [3], providing significant advantages for deployable structures. This paper introduces a novel method for constructing deployable tensegrities at multiple scales, where the majority of the structure is comprised of stable components. A straightforward approach for building deployable tensegrity structures is presented, using eight bar elements of varying lengths and seven cables[4].Deployable thin-walled systems that can change their shape can be used in sunscreen,rooftops and active building skins [5].
