ASSESSMENT OF PLACENTAL GROWTH FACTORPLGF, PREGNANCY ASSOCIATED PLASMA PROTEIN – A PAPPA-AMARKERS AND OTHER PARAMETERS IN A PREGNANT WOMEN WITH PRE-ECLAMPSIA
Abstract
Abstract:-
Background - Pre-eclampsia is a unique disorder that affects multiple systems during pregnancy. It occurs in approximately 2-8% of pregnancies and is a significant contributor to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide.A member of the vascular endothelial growth factor family, the placental growth factor is primarily expressed in the placenta. However, it is also weakly expressed in a variety of other tissues, such as the liver, heart, lung, thyroid, skeletal muscle, and bone.
Aim of the study - Assessing the level of placental growth factor, Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein – A, and Magnesium in patients with preeclampsia.
Patient and Method - This case-control study included 64 pregnant women ,32 with preeclampsia and 32normal pregnant women aged 20-45y. Samples were collected from Baghdad Teaching Hospital, blood samplestaken from all studied groups tomeasure placental growth factor, PAPP-A with an ELISA Kit.
Result - The results showed that the level of serumPLGF in pregnant women with preeclampsia (77.83 ± 49.45)(pg/ml), significantly increased (P value < 0.05) compared to normal pregnant women(56.03 ± 23.79) (pg/ml) and level of magnesium were significant decreases (1.01 ± 0.19) compared to normal pregnant women(1.46 ± 0.16) (mg/dl) while the level of PAPP-A was non- significantly decreases (46.02 ± 2.94) in pregnant women with preeclampsia compared to normal pregnant women (46.85 ± 2.99).
Conclusion - Serum Placental growth factorwas significantly increasedamongpreeclampsia women than normal pregnant women, while magnesium was significantly decreasedamong preeclamptic women than normal pregnant women.
Keywords - Preeclampsia, Placental Growth Factor, Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein – A, magnesium.
