Paper Title
Swing Between Teaching and Research: The Feasibility and Challenges of Building a Teaching-Research Nexus in Taiwan Higher Education

Abstract
Universities are the halls of teacher teaching, research development, and student learning. With the development of the knowledge society as the cradle of national talent cultivation, research development and knowledge transfer (teaching) have become essential tasks of universities. Jenkins and Healey (2005) regarded research, teaching, and learning as a trinity. They believed that integrating teaching and research in the course can support academics' teaching improvement and research topics in ideas and output, and students also possess opportunities to explore questions and research skills. Through qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews and focus groups, 35 university academics, through a snowball approach, were research samples to gain insights into their views on (1) issues, challenges, and solutions arising from the teaching-research nexus in Taiwan and (2) supporting mechanism in HEIs and policy suggestions. Based on the research findings, a niche that supports the teaching-research nexus for university academics promotes academic productivity and allows academics to develop the teaching profession and research performance in a balanced manner.
