A STUDY TO COMPARE THE EFFECTS OF CRANIO-CERVICAL FLEXION EXERCISES AND SCAPULAR STABILIZATION EXERCISES ON PAIN, DISABILITY AND SCAPULAR DYSKINESIA AMONG PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC MECHANICAL NECK PAIN

Abstract
Abstract:- Background: Neck pain is one of the common musculoskeletal disorders in societies .It is a major health issue with high rates of recurrence. It presents with a variety of altered sensorimotor functions. It is more prevalent in middle and old age and can also lead to severe disability in 5% of patients. Muscles have deceased strength, endurance and cervical muscle behavior is altered eg ., decreased activity of deep postural muscles, delayed onset of muscle responses, muscle fatigability and increased neck muscle co-contraction. Due to the weakness of muscles, posture of neck is affected. As neck and shoulder are interlinked, changes in the neck causes changes in the shoulder eg, Forward Head Posture and Rounded Shoulder. Shoulder weakness or imbalance eventually affects the position of the scapula. This, in turn can cause limited mobility and shoulder blade pain occurs which leads to scapular dyskinesia. Scapular dyskinesia refers as abnormal static position and or dynamic movement of the scapula. Therefore, in this line of thought, the present study is designed compare the effects of cranio-cervical flexion exercises and scapular stabilization on pain, disability and scapular dyskinesia among patients with chronic-mechanical neck pain. Aim of The Study: To compare the effects of cranio-cervical flexion exercises and scapular stabilization on pain, disability and scapular dyskinesia among patients with chronic-mechanical neck pain. Methodology - The total duration of the study will be one and a half year. Subjects meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be selected in the study. A minimum of 45 subjects, both male and female with age between 30-50 years, will be selected for the study and subsequently divided into 3 groups with minimum of 15 subjects in each group. Group A (control group) will be given Hot pack and High TENS for 15 minutes and Stretching exercises. Group B and C will be experimental groups. Group B will be given Craniocervical flexion exercises in addition to Hot pack and High TENS. Group C will be given Scapular Stabilization exercises in addition to Hot pack and High TENS. The baseline data will be recorded on first day (pre intervention) and on last day of second week (post intervention). All the interventions will be performed once a day, five days a week for two weeks. Data Analysis - The collected data will be analysed using ANOVA and other statistical tests . Keywords - Scapular dyskinesia , Neck disability, Chronic Neck Pain, Mechanical Neck Pain.
