RELATİONSHİPS BETWEEN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT PARAMETERS OF SWEET SORGHUM AND BİOETHANOL YİELD

Abstract
The use of fossil fuels causes global warming and is exhaustible has increased the importance of bioethanol production among renewable energy sources in recent years. Bioethanol production from sweet sorghum is more advantageous than other plants. For sustainable bioethanol production from sweet sorghum, irrigation scheduling during the growing season is crucial, given limited water resources. Subsurface drip irrigation is a method that increases both yield and water use efficiency. Our study aims to examine the relationship between growth and development parameters of sweet sorghum and bioethanol yield at different irrigation water levels and lateral depths. The experiment was carried out in triplicate in a randomized block trial in 2020 and 2021 in Antalya, Turkey. The relationships between plant height, stem yield, chlorophyll content, stomatal conductance, leaf area index, and bioethanol yield obtained from three different irrigation water levels at two different lateral depths were evaluated. As a result, it was determined that there was a highly linear relationship and a strong positive correlation between these parameters and bioethanol yield. In addition, it was concluded that bioethanol yield can be estimated with the equations obtained in our study by measuring parameters used in the subsurface drip irrigation method.
