Paper Title
Cytotoxic Activity of A Compound Isolated from Roots and Rhizomes of Glycyrrhiza Glabra

Abstract
For decades, cancer has remained the largest global health problem due to its increasingly high incidence and mortality rates, as well as the development of drug resistance to many of the currently existing treatment regimens. In addition, traditional chemotherapeutic agents are rife with aggressive side effects that, to some extent, outweigh the benefits of their use. This is especially the case with breast cancer, particularly that of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), which lacks a definite treatment regimen and a high mortality rate since patients are left with limited choices of using aggressive chemotherapies. In this context, the use of extracts of roots and rhizomes of licorice as adjuvant therapies for TNBC management is the primary objective of this study. Extraction, fractionation, and purification using different chromatographic tools of the plant hydroalcoholic extract resulted in the separation of a pure compound showing intense florescence under UV light at both short and long wavelengths. Assessment of its anticancer and antiproliferative effects against TNBC cell culture lines, as well as its ameliorative effects for normal cells against the deleterious side effects of chemotherapies was studied. The current study showed a positive correlation between the use of the isolated compound on TNBC cell culture, warranting further studies in its employment as a potential adjuvant agent for TNBC management.
