Brief History of Curriculum Development and the Key Principles of the Updated Curriculum to Implement Through Materials in Secondary Education in Kazakhstan
Abstract
This paper examines the historical phases (classical humanist, reconstructionism, and progressivism) of curriculum development in secondary education in Kazakhstan. The former two phases of curriculum development did not work for the national interestwhich impacted the launch of a historically important phase of curriculum development progressivism. Here, the focus of the new phase of curriculum development emphasizes implementing key principles of the updated curriculum; Mangilik Yel(eternal land), cross-curricular links, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and criteria-based assessment. The findings of the study recommend redesigning materials under the principles of the updated curriculum.
