A STUDY ON THE ACTIVITY AND REACTION CHRACTERISTICS OF N2O DECOMPOSITION USING Rh/Al2O3 CATALYSTS WITH CeO2 ADDITION AND VARIOUS PREPARATION METHODS

Abstract
Rh/CeO2 catalysts generally exhibit high activity for N2O decomposition. However, the presence of oxygen inhibit N2O decomposition reaction. In contrast, Rh/Al2O3 catalysts, which use Al2O3 as support, are known for their resistance to oxygen.CeO₂ is widely researched in various catalytic fields due to its excellent redox properties and superior oxygen transfer capabilities. However, its high cost poses a challenge for its application as a support material in practical catalytic processes. Consequently, CeO₂ is often used as a promoter rather than a primary support. To address this issue, we have investigated the preparation of a Rh-loaded catalyst by uniformly dispersing CeO₂ on Al₂O₃, a commercially available support with a relatively large surface area. This study, we trying to improve decomposition activity and oxygen resistance by adding CeO2. We applying three different preparation method, which called ‘impregnation’, ‘co-precipitation’, and ‘ball-milling’. The catalysts prepared by these three methods were evaluated for their performance test, and subjected to H2-TPR, FT-IR, and oxygen on/off tests. The catalyst prepared by co-precipitation showed the highest performance and improved resistance to oxygen. Keywords - CeO2, Oxygen resistance, Rh/CeO2, Rh/Al2O3, impregnation.
