STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ENGLISH CLASS

Abstract
In welcoming the 5.0 era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has an important role and is becoming common in EFL classrooms. When teachers would like to implement an Artificial Intelligence(AI)application,thethingthatneedstobeconsideredishowstudentsaccepttheuse of that application. One of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems is Grammarly, which displays corrections and suggestions for language structures when writing. This study aimsto determine the use of Grammarly from students’ point of view. Participants in this studywere24undergraduatestudentsmajoringin the English Department who had used Grammarly and had taken writing classes at UIN Fatmawati Soekarno Bengkulu. This research was a descriptive qualitative study. To find out students' perceptions, the researcher collected data using a closed questionnaire and interviews. The research findings showed that students have a positive view of using Grammarly as an online grammar checker to help them with their writing. Participants believed that using Grammarly could improve their writing skills. Keywords – Artificial Intelligence, Grammarly, EFL Students Perspective.
