WOODCRAFT IN GREECE: THE DEVELOPMENT FROM A TRADITIONAL PROFESSION IN A SOCIAL INNOVATION ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Abstract
Handicrafts have long been integral to the economic advancement of nations, addressing fundamental human needs, while alsoserving as cornerstone elements of a country's cultural heritage, embodying unique values, aesthetics, and authenticity. Developed societies ought to support the craft industries in all possible ways. Our primary researchelucidates the key characteristic elements of woodworking in Greece, through specializedinterviews with woodworkers-artists. Next, the strengths and weaknesses of Greek woodworking are presented, along with the opportunities and threats of the international external environment, through SWOT analysis. All of the above constitute fundamental elements for the implementation of a model strategy for the reconstitution, development and redefinition of Greek carpentry, as well as handicrafts in general. The findings indicate that the sector of Greek Woodworking possesses significant potential, expertise, and heritage that should receive substantial support from both the State and the EU.
