INVESTIGATING ATTITUDE TOWARDS SCIENCE OF PRE-SERVICE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS BASED ON THEIR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Abstract
Students of the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program are pre-service elementary teachers who must understand the concept of science well. The attitude of pre-service elementary teachers towards science can affect the understanding of science concepts. Therefore, a pre-service elementary teacher is expected to have a positive attitude towards science. This study aims to investigate the attitudes towards natural science among pre-service elementary school teachers based on their educational background. This study used a quantitative approach using survey research. This study involved elementary school pre-service teachers as many as 145 students at Yogyakarta State University. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire distributed via google form. Data analysis techniques using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. The results of this study indicate that based on previous educational background, pre-service elementary school teacher candidates have significant differences in attitudes towards science. Pre-service elementary school teachers with a secondary school background majoring in science tend to have a more positive attitude towards science. They have greater motivation interest and experience in learning science. Meanwhile, PGSD students who have a non-IPA secondary school background tend to have a less positive attitude towards science.
