EDUCATION, TOLERANCE AND PEACE; SOME PERSPECTIVES FOR NIGERIA

Abstract
PROBLEMSTATEMENT This study seeks tointerrogatethe linkage between the rising number of uneducated children and youths across Nigeria and their potentials as foot soldiers for acts ofextremism andterror organizations. Theinvolvement of these uneducated groupin street begging, hawking, banditry, and other social vices have the tendency to aggravate civil unrest in Nigeria.The study offered some ways out to stakeholders to improve educational delivery to the populace as well as reverse the ugly trend. METHODS The paper adopted Content Analysis method by sourcing information available in published books, online media, and government policy documents. Data gathered were thoroughly reviewed and analyzed in a thematic style leading to objective presentations and conclusions. RESULTS In NorthernNigeria, myriads of challenges have affected the present status of educationcausing some school drop-outs children and uneducated youths to joininsurgent groups, armed bandits, and other agents of destructions against vulnerable communities. CONCLUSION The paper concluded that the rising incidences of out-of-school children and uneducated youths has already compromised peace and tolerance in most areas in many parts of Nigeria creating conditionsthat could lead to morecivil unrest with the possibility of multiple crises and possible disintegration of the country. All hand must be on deck to improve access and inclusiveness to acquire quality education for peace and tolerance to reign.
