Paper Title
ONLINE EDUCATION IN THE FIELD OF ARCHITECTURE: CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF BELGRADE, SERBIA
Abstract
The modern era of technologies, artificial intelligence as well as the high-level stress lifestyle and data infused perception is reflected into almost every aspect of life, including the present process of teaching. Furthermore, the period of COVID-19 pandemic presented extra challenges for the educational process in different fields, especially in the field of architecture, which relies very much on physical presence and hand-drawing process. In the paper we analyzed the quality and level of creativity in architectural education during the online teaching period in 2020 and 2021, combining both the experience of teachers and students using the questionnaire and interviews as a main methodological tool. Results showed that teachers found online teaching more time consuming and more stressful. Majority of teachers considers online teaching in architecture to decrease the overall project outcomes. On the other hand, a large group of students prefer online education because it allows them to change the location they are learning from. However, they agree with teachers on the topic of lower-quality outcomes. Also, students showed less interaction during classes and were less interested in the class topic. The fundamental is how to make students be interested in online education and how to achieve creative ideas. We, as educators, have to adapt, and transform the way we teach in order to be competitive in dealing with the with the issues such as online education and social distance between teachers and students.
