Modernism, Postmodernism, and Postcolonial and Social Theorists : A Comparison of Social Theorists
Abstract
The idea of Enlightenment is based on reason and empirical research and the emancipation of people's thinking and not thought restrictions from internal or external factors. This paper focuses on understanding the idea of the Enlightenment and the different scholars' view of it and the post-Enlightenment post-modernism and postcolonial theories. The author conducts a literature review of the prominent articles written on related topics. In general, modern and postmodern social theory are too focused on western European countries. Post-Modernists theorists’ ideas are similar to critical theory there is a rejection of positivism and enlightenment theories of progress.
